Zanelle: Palm Tree Paintings

Ever since I moved to San Diego I have been fascinated with the Palm trees here. Apparently they are not native to the area and are actually considered imported grasses. There are over a hundred different kinds of Palms and I have just begun to explore them. This slideshow has the palm tree paintings I have done so far.

FIVE DONS - WRITING FOR MY SOUL

My Uncle died on the Normandy Beach.
My Father saved my mother in Pearl Harbor.
My ex husband tries so hard to do what is right.
A lover who tied me up.
A cranky old man in an Altzheimers Center.

When you saw the beach did you know you would die?
Did you realize you would be with her for the next 60 years?
You have had two wives now. Was it all worth it?
Why couldnt you be comfortable with your own cum?
You made me cry and you dont care. Or do you?

You were so handsome and young. I miss you.
The one man I can say I truly love.
We were together for so long yet I hardly know you.
Don Four. You parked down the block and came in with your bag of tricks.
We continue to hate each other. Or do we?

Materializing

Out of a mist of time
The next generation wades in
Reminding me of the events
That shaped my life.

I want to tell my daughters
That it is going to be alright
They know that even when your hair is afire
You are fine. Shining. Glowing.

There is a certian kind of transformation
That comes from being forged.
The people you let into your life
Set you on fire or throw water on you.

You will not really change as time goes by.
That you is a constant that lasts afterlife.
Your bones go to dust but that you is different.
Enduring and enriching and evolving.

EXPLOSION PAINTINGS

I have done explosion paintings since the 1990's after I got divorced. I holed up in Port Townsend and exploded an apple and then a watermelon. I began to love the physics of it all and I studied any debris I found. I smashed things and hung them from the ceiling to get the feeling of the parts floating in space. I had an art show at a jazz store in downtown Seattle and I sold three paintings. I have recently started exploding things again. My daughters are wondering if Im getting ready to explode my life again. One never really knows when that will happen. But if it does I will survive and observe it all with interest.
